I was surprised that the shelves are composed of hollow plastic slats. I bought this in order to store fabric and sewing supplies, which I think it will be fine for, but I would not use it to store my sewing machine or serger because I'm not sure how the slats would hold up over time. It shipped very quickly and I'm glad this item qualified for free shipping! Overall I'm satisfied, but I urge you to take into consideration that while the frame is metal, the shelves themselves are hollow plastic.

I bought this shelf thinking that the horizontal wide slats were made of metal, the are plastic. If I would have known that they were plastic I probably would have made a different decision. I will use the shelf but I don't expect it to last as long as one of the other shelving units that is all metal. If I need another shelf I won't buy this one again.

These shelves arrived very quickly and I have been very pleased with them. Assembly was easy, they are made sturdy and strong. I bought them to hold some indoor plants. They are painted brown and made of steel so my only concern is that they don't rust from water spills, but then I knew this was a possibility when I purchased them. They'd be very good for any kind or storage yet they look nice enough to be used as a piece of furniture to display whatever you'd like.
